Finland, blogging and learning English
About me
My
Information Processing Science studies story began a few years ago, though back
then it was nothing more than a random idea. For some reason, I really wanted
to come to Finland and one day I began to consider studying there. And so, for
the past two years I’ve been working towards it. It was a stressful period as
it was connected to my high school graduation and thus, I’ve had a lot going
on. I ended up having to wait until July to know if I can really come here. But
in the end, everything turned out well, though arriving here was only a part of
success. Starting a new life in a foreign country alone can be very tough, and
it took me some time to really settle down. And so, here I am, beginning the
third period of my studies.
Blogging
The funny
thing about blogging to me is that I’ve never really heard anything about it
and thus I didn’t see the value it brings to the table. However, after reading
an article about blogging advantages I can think of a few ways in which writing
a blog can benefit me. The first one is about improving my writing skills.
Maybe a bit generic but it still applies to blogging. I personally don’t
consider myself to be a good writer, but I believe that the more I try, the
more time I dedicate to it, the better I’ll become. Another advantage of
writing a blog is learning. When you write about something you need to, well,
understand it. It forces you to not only read about something but also analyze
and truly understand it in order to explain it later on.
English learning goals
Even though
I consider my English to be on a rather satisfactory level I’m more than aware
that there is still a lot I have to learn. Arriving here, in Finland, was a big
deal when it comes to learning the language. Before that I’ve never really had
many opportunities to actually speak English and now it’s basically my main way
of communication. It really helps a lot, being forced to actually use the
language. Not to mention that all my courses are carried out in English which
is another advantage when it comes to learning. Still, I really look forward to
improving my vocabulary knowledge as I still catch myself not knowing the
meaning of certain words from time to time. My speaking abilities can also be
improved, I believe, and this is something I definitely want to work on.
Conclusion
The path I
had to walk to get there was relatively long and quite stressful at times but
here I am, studying Information Processing Science in Finland. During my
studies I was introduced to blogging, something I’ve never considered important
in any way. But after learning more about it I discovered that I can greatly benefit
from writing one myself. Arriving in Finland was also a huge step forward when
it comes to improving my English skills, something I was really excited about.
And yet, it doesn’t end here. There’s still a lot I have to learn and I can’t
wait to see what the future holds.
